Hello, my name is Walter Portillo. I am the chef/owner of Walter’s Kitchen. My story is simple but also a true story of America’s opportunity. I moved to Dallas in 1990 from my home country El Salvador. My first job ever here in Dallas was at Long John’s Silver working for $4.25 in the kitchen. Over the following years, I developed a strong love of cooking and worked around the Metroplex at Red Lobster, Cantina Laredo, Cheddars, and even steakhouses like Sullivan’s and Three Forks. I eventually found my way to Pei Wei Asian Diner where I stayed for a little over 7 years as the chef/GM of several locations. My experience in all types of food and my love of the various cuisines led me to this, my first restaurant ownership here at Walter’s Kitchen. I want to use this opportunity to share with you a broad but approachable scope of foods that I love, and more importantly, love to cook! It’s a wonderful mix of Asian, Mexican, and American cuisine that represents the diversity of my experience and my passion for food. I hope you will enjoy our selection and if I can answer any of your questions or help you choose, please just ask me -even if you just want to say hello!
